MAGGIANO’S!! HERE WE COME!!!! We are moving our dinner meetings to Maggiano’s in North Park for the summer--those dates being June 25, July 23, and August 27. We are meeting on the second floor—which can be accessed by stairs and an elevator. The really good news is that our food price is the same [$40/person] but we will have MUCH MORE variety!! At each meal, we will have multiple appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and ALL will be served “family style”- meaning that you can eat as much [or as little!!] as you want. Come prepared to have a FABULOUS meal AND meeting to boot!! MORE GOOD NEWS!! Maggiano’s will let us make reservations up until 24 hours prior to the program, i.e. 6 PM on June 24 is the reservation deadline for our next meeting, and reservations are made by sending an email with your name to leebaldwin@dfwatty.com. ….And don’t forget. BRING A FRIEND!!
JUNE’S PROGRAM: WHY is the Gambling Lobby Targeting the Texas Legislature in the Spring of 2027 again ?!?!?
Didn’t we hear a lot about gambling in 2025? YES! Weren’t we told that large gambling businesses and gambling families were thinking about buying the land where the old Dallas Cowboys Stadium was to build a huge casino complex? YES!! Didn’t the press tell us that the reason the Mavericks were sold two years ago was so that all the money made on the sale could be used to pay for the biggest lobbying effort to legalize gambling in Texas in 2025? YES!!
Well, it is true that all that happened in 2025, so we thought the gambling lobby would leave Texas alone in 2027, but new data says that they are coming back with a vengeance [partly because they ended up empty-handed in 2025!!]. Destin Sensky, the Executive Director of “Texans for Fiscal Responsibility” [“TFR”], has put together for us a most informative program on predatory gambling and how it can affect Texas taxpayers negatively—if it is legalized. We all know that Texas has a little legalized gambling already [the racetrack in Grand Prairie; “Scratchoffs” at your local 7-11; etc.], but the gambling lobby has seen the statistics of online “sports gambling” and they can’t believe their eyes!! What arguments will they use to try to persuade lawmakers to act against the citizens’ best interests to legalize this new form of gambling? Will they purposefully NOT do research on all the social welfare costs that such gambling produces? […like increased divorce rates, more individuals and couples filing for bankruptcy, the psychological addiction of gambling; and more!!]. Come hear Destin—armed with statistics and research to back up TFR’s position of opposing the gambling forces. Don’t forget to also email your reservation to Lee!
SEE YOU AND A FRIEND ON JUNE 25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARE YOU IN TOWN ON JULY THE 4TH?!?!?
Then, come join DPRW to celebrate America’s 250th birthday at the “National Medal of Honor” Museum located on A,T & T Way in Arlington, Texas [817-274-1861]. The museum opens at 10 AM and is playing patriotic music all day!
Numerous displays highlight the many acts of bravery of America’s finest in ALL of its wars! We can get in at a discounted rate if we have 8 or more people attend.
Please email Lee Baldwin at “leebaldwin@dfwatty.com” to reserve a spot. We’re meeting at her red [of course!] car in the museum’s parking lot. Friends and family are welcome to join us!
Questions?!? Ask Lee via her email. Don’t forget to wear red, white, and blue! We hope to see YOU on the 4th!!
